The completion of the Chomphet Lower Secondary School Addition culminates a long journey that started in 2010, when Give Children A Choice was asked to help the school.
Give Children A Choice fortuitously met B.L. Harbert’s Mr. Chuck Chandonnet, who initiated a project to not only donated a four-classroom addition to the school, but also trucked in 100 truckloads of dirt to raise and regrade the once swampy school grounds. Chuck was transferred to another project and was replaced by Mr. Nick Agnew to oversee the project completion.
Give Children A Choice’s supporters contributed 60 student desks, teachers’ desks and chairs, fans, blackboards, and lots of energy to the school.
The handover ceremony was a joyous and special occasion with special guests Mr. Hiem and Madam Kanika (who are good friends of Give Children A Choice’s Dori and Barbara Shimoda). Mr. Hiem’s keynote speech asked the international and local community to help schools like the Chomphet School.
After the handover ceremony, there was a baci, followed by a guest tour of the new school building.
