Give Children A Choice’s UXO victim advocacy paid off. After a few email exchanges with MAG USA and MAG Lao, a visit to MAG Laos office in Vientiane late last year, MAG Lao agreed to help.
MAG Lao sent their UXO team to the Yang’s half-acre property and found 11 UXO, including four BLU26s. The BLU26 bombie is the most common UXO of the 80 million, left in Lao by the US over 40 years ago. It was the bombie that blinded Kayeng.
We thank the MAG organization in Lao PDR on behalf of the Kayeng Yang family for pausing from their demanding queue of 900 survey and clearance projects to help. We know they were busy, but I am sure they feel good about helping create safer grounds for Kayeng and his family.
When we visited Kayeng’s grandparents on March 26, 2013 to check up on Kayeng’s operation recovery. We shared with Kayeng’s grandparents what MAG had done. They did not know that 11 UXOs were removed. They know now. They are relieved.
